CA- Hello all. I have a quick question, my pay was recently decreased by 30% now i am doing the math and if i were to claim unemployment i would be making more in theory since i would save 300-400$ in gas per month also that would free up my time during the day for job interviews.
My first question is in regards to the pay decrease, just out of curiosity are business able to make such large pay decrease in a one time shot, or are there any laws that limit such a huge pay decrease. Second question, would i be eligible for unemployment if i were to quit and my reason in doing so is because i would be better off claiming unemployment while searching for a new job that would pay more. The management just informed me my current hourly wage is at its cap and i would not be eligible to make as much as i used to nor anymore? thanks, fellow reader.. |

Quitting would almost certainly eliminate your chances for UI--as they see it, any income is better than none. However a 30% pay reduction is substantial. You can file a UI claim for the wage reduction and they may pick up some of the difference.

Are there separate terms and regulations between this claim and a typical claim that usually result in a job loss? thanks again! |

Yes, you can continue to work at your job with the wage reduction and recived the UI check for the difference. It won't last forever so you may want to dust off that resume.
You can check online at www.edd.ca.gov Good luck. |

that's Awesome News! thank you so much. Yes, i will be on a hunt definitely for a career rather than job, my only concern was the wage difference being a parent, but if i could get Unemployment to help out with some of the difference that would be a great help!
One quick question and i'll let you go. :0 .. you wouldnt by chance know if say i were to claim UI for the difference for 2 months, and then finally get laid off if i were to file a UI claim again woudl that 2 months count on the new UI claim as well or would that be a separate case in its own? thanks! |

It would be a different claim as you have two different dates of events--the first is the 30% reduction and the second would be a lay off date.
Hope that helps. |
